De Copland CDA 825 is een speciale cd-speler, ontworpen om het beste te halen uit traditionele cd's uit het Redbook. Er is zelfs geen knipoog naar SACD, DVD-Audio of zelfs computeraudio. Kijk maar eens achterom en je vindt alleen een enkele coaxiale digitale uitgang naast de gebalanceerde en single-ended analoge aansluitingen. 
 
Copland heeft zich geconcentreerd op de basis. De behuizing is degelijk en mooi afgewerkt, waardoor de speler een ingetogen luxe uitstraalt. Ongebruikelijk is dat de CDA 825 van bovenaf wordt geladen. Dit maakt hem op de een of andere manier specialer dan apparaten met een lade, maar het betekent wel dat de speler op de bovenste plank van een rek moet staan of een ruim schap waar je nog bij kunt. De schijf draait weg en heeft daarom niet veel extra ruimte nodig.

Het transport is een Philips CD-Pro2LF. Het is ontworpen voor bovenladergebruik en werkt snel en stil.

Zodra het transport de gegevens van de CD heeft gelezen worden deze, nogal ongebruikelijk voor een geïntegreerde speler, in een buffer geplaatst. (De informatie die het transport verlaat heeft altijd een bepaald niveau van jitter. Door dit signaal in een buffer te stoppen en het vervolgens weer nauwkeurig te klokken, wordt het jitterniveau aanzienlijk verlaagd, wat betekent dat de digitaal-naar-analoog conversie schakelingen een signaal van betere kwaliteit hebben om mee te werken).

Het gebruik van deze buffer voegt een vertraging van twee seconden toe aan het signaalpad, dus als je op 'Stop' drukt terwijl een muziekstuk wordt afgespeeld, speelt het iets langer door voordat het echt stopt. Dat voelt in het begin een beetje vreemd, maar we raakten eraan gewend.

Copland heeft de beproefde en vertrouwde high-end route gevolgd door twee DAC's per kanaal te gebruiken. Dit verlaagt ongewenste ruis, waardoor de signaal-ruisverhouding verbetert. Dat zou moeten leiden tot een geluid met een betere resolutie.

De getallen krakende apparaten die worden gebruikt zijn de befaamde Wolfsan WM8741 24bit/192kHz chips. Zoals altijd met een goede high-end kit is er veel werk gestoken in het ontwerp van de voeding, de analoge circuit lay-outs en het kiezen van de juiste componenten om de beste geluidskwaliteit te bereiken.

Als je begint te luisteren is het duidelijk dat al het werk van Copland zijn vruchten heeft afgeworpen. Dit is een enorm capabele speler.

Een ding om op te merken is dat de signaaluitvoer van Copland aan de hoge kant is. Via de single-ended analoge aansluitingen levert hij 2,4 volt in plaats van de meer gebruikelijke 2,0 volt, en dit verdubbelt naar 4,8 volt met een gebalanceerde aansluiting, in tegenstelling tot de industriestandaard van 4,0 volt.

De CDA 825 haalt ontzettend veel informatie van CD. Hij heeft een open, ruimtelijke presentatie .

			'description_en' => 'he Copland CDA 825 is a dedicated CD player, designed to get the best from traditional Red Book CDs. There isn’t even a passing nod to SACD, DVD-Audio or even computer audio. In fact, look round the back and you’ll only find a single coaxial digital output alongside the balanced and single-ended analogue connections.
 
Copland has concentrated on getting the basics right. The casework is decently solidand beautifully finished, giving the player an aura of understated luxury. Unusually, the CDA 825 is a top-loading design. This somehow makes it seem more special than drawer-equipped units, but it does mean the player needs to be on the top shelf of any rack.

The transport is a Philips CD-Pro2LF. It’s designed for top-loading operation and works with speed and quietness.

Once the transport reads the data from the CD it is, rather unusually for an integrated player, fed into a buffer. (The information that leaves the transport invariably has a certain level of jitter in it. Putting this signal into a buffer and then accurately clocking it out again lowers the jitter levels significantly, which means the digital-to-analogue conversion circuitry has a better-quality signal to work from.)

The use of this buffer adds a two-second delay into the signal path, so if you press ‘Stop’ while a piece of music is playing then it plays on just a little longer before it actually stops. That feels a little odd at first, but we got used to it.

Copland has followed the tried and trusted high-end route of using two DACs per channel. This lowers unwanted noise, so improving the signal-to-noise ratio. That should mean a better-resolved sound.

The number-crunching devices used are well-regarded Wolfsan WM8741 24bit/192kHz chips. As always with good high-end kit there has been plenty of work put into the power supply design, analogue circuit layouts and choosing just the right components to acheive the best sound quality.

Start listening and it’s obvious all of Copland’s work has paid off. This is a hugely capable player.

One thing to take note of is that Copland’s signal output is on the high side. Through the single-ended analogue sockets it delivers 2.4 volts rather than the more usual 2.0 volts, and this doubles to 4.8 volts with a balanced connection, as opposed to the industry standard of 4.0 volts.

While a highish output is not a problem in itself it does mean you have to be careful to match levels when comparing the CDA 825 to rivals. A louder sound invariably grabs a listener’s attention more during a comparative demo.

The CDA 825 recovers an awful lot of information from CD. It has an open, spacious presentation that veers ever so slightly to the leaner side of neutral in tonality. We mention this more as an observation rather than a criticism. It’s just something to keep in mind when it comes to system matching.',

De Copland CDA 825 is een speciale cd-speler, ontworpen om het beste te halen uit traditionele cd's uit het Redbook. Er is zelfs geen knipoog naar SACD, DVD-Audio of zelfs computeraudio. Kijk maar eens achterom en je vindt alleen een enkele coaxiale digitale uitgang naast de gebalanceerde en single-ended analoge aansluitingen. 
 
Copland heeft zich geconcentreerd op de basis. De behuizing is degelijk en mooi afgewerkt, waardoor de speler een ingetogen luxe uitstraalt. Ongebruikelijk is dat de CDA 825 van bovenaf wordt geladen. Dit maakt hem op de een of andere manier specialer dan apparaten met een lade, maar het betekent wel dat de speler op de bovenste plank van een rek moet staan of een ruim schap waar je nog bij kunt. De schijf draait weg en heeft daarom niet veel extra ruimte nodig.

Het transport is een Philips CD-Pro2LF. Het is ontworpen voor bovenladergebruik en werkt snel en stil.

Zodra het transport de gegevens van de CD heeft gelezen worden deze, nogal ongebruikelijk voor een geïntegreerde speler, in een buffer geplaatst. (De informatie die het transport verlaat heeft altijd een bepaald niveau van jitter. Door dit signaal in een buffer te stoppen en het vervolgens weer nauwkeurig te klokken, wordt het jitterniveau aanzienlijk verlaagd, wat betekent dat de digitaal-naar-analoog conversie schakelingen een signaal van betere kwaliteit hebben om mee te werken).

Het gebruik van deze buffer voegt een vertraging van twee seconden toe aan het signaalpad, dus als je op 'Stop' drukt terwijl een muziekstuk wordt afgespeeld, speelt het iets langer door voordat het echt stopt. Dat voelt in het begin een beetje vreemd, maar we raakten eraan gewend.

Copland heeft de beproefde en vertrouwde high-end route gevolgd door twee DAC's per kanaal te gebruiken. Dit verlaagt ongewenste ruis, waardoor de signaal-ruisverhouding verbetert. Dat zou moeten leiden tot een geluid met een betere resolutie.

De getallen krakende apparaten die worden gebruikt zijn de befaamde Wolfsan WM8741 24bit/192kHz chips. Zoals altijd met een goede high-end kit is er veel werk gestoken in het ontwerp van de voeding, de analoge circuit lay-outs en het kiezen van de juiste componenten om de beste geluidskwaliteit te bereiken.

Als je begint te luisteren is het duidelijk dat al het werk van Copland zijn vruchten heeft afgeworpen. Dit is een enorm capabele speler.

Een ding om op te merken is dat de signaaluitvoer van Copland aan de hoge kant is. Via de single-ended analoge aansluitingen levert hij 2,4 volt in plaats van de meer gebruikelijke 2,0 volt, en dit verdubbelt naar 4,8 volt met een gebalanceerde aansluiting, in tegenstelling tot de industriestandaard van 4,0 volt.

			'description_en' => 'he Copland CDA 825 is a dedicated CD player, designed to get the best from traditional Red Book CDs. There isn’t even a passing nod to SACD, DVD-Audio or even computer audio. In fact, look round the back and you’ll only find a single coaxial digital output alongside the balanced and single-ended analogue connections.
 
Copland has concentrated on getting the basics right. The casework is decently solidand beautifully finished, giving the player an aura of understated luxury. Unusually, the CDA 825 is a top-loading design. This somehow makes it seem more special than drawer-equipped units, but it does mean the player needs to be on the top shelf of any rack.

The transport is a Philips CD-Pro2LF. It’s designed for top-loading operation and works with speed and quietness.

Once the transport reads the data from the CD it is, rather unusually for an integrated player, fed into a buffer. (The information that leaves the transport invariably has a certain level of jitter in it. Putting this signal into a buffer and then accurately clocking it out again lowers the jitter levels significantly, which means the digital-to-analogue conversion circuitry has a better-quality signal to work from.)

The use of this buffer adds a two-second delay into the signal path, so if you press ‘Stop’ while a piece of music is playing then it plays on just a little longer before it actually stops. That feels a little odd at first, but we got used to it.

Copland has followed the tried and trusted high-end route of using two DACs per channel. This lowers unwanted noise, so improving the signal-to-noise ratio. That should mean a better-resolved sound.

The number-crunching devices used are well-regarded Wolfsan WM8741 24bit/192kHz chips. As always with good high-end kit there has been plenty of work put into the power supply design, analogue circuit layouts and choosing just the right components to acheive the best sound quality.

Start listening and it’s obvious all of Copland’s work has paid off. This is a hugely capable player.

One thing to take note of is that Copland’s signal output is on the high side. Through the single-ended analogue sockets it delivers 2.4 volts rather than the more usual 2.0 volts, and this doubles to 4.8 volts with a balanced connection, as opposed to the industry standard of 4.0 volts.

While a highish output is not a problem in itself it does mean you have to be careful to match levels when comparing the CDA 825 to rivals. A louder sound invariably grabs a listener’s attention more during a comparative demo.

The CDA 825 recovers an awful lot of information from CD. It has an open, spacious presentation that veers ever so slightly to the leaner side of neutral in tonality. We mention this more as an observation rather than a criticism. It’s just something to keep in mind when it comes to system matching.',
